About
Oleksandr Yukhymovych is a composer, conductor, and viola player from Kyiv, Ukraine. His work in classical music includes three operas, a symphony, and chamber works, among others, demonstrating his distinctive approach to storytelling and emotional depth. He has won and reached the finals of numerous international music competitions, including the Music Award Maastricht and the International Youth Music Competitions. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Cultural Policy & Arts Management at the University College Dublin.
Oleksandr began his musical training on violin and piano, later developing his passion for composing and conducting. He graduated with first-class honours in viola from Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music in 2022, then earned his master’s degree cum laude in 2023 at Conservatorium Maastricht, studying with professor Michael Kugel. In 2024, he completed a master’s degree in composition with first-class honours under Evgen Stankovych at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music. He earned a second master’s degree cum laude from Conservatory Maastricht in 2025, studying with Julia Dinerstein.
Oleksandr has collaborated with distinguished ensembles and artists internationally. His festival appearance includes the Pärnu Music Festival and Järvi Academy, where he worked with conductors Neeme and Paavo Järvi. He has also collaborated with such musicians as Yuzuko Horigome and Arjan Tien. His compositions blend classical traditions with contemporary sensibilities, with a particular focus on writing for strings and voice.
